3 Things To Watch In The Ashanti Derby As Ashgold Host Kotoko

Matches involving the two are tumultuous, controversial and very important to both. They are the greatest clubs in the Ashanti Kingdom and have each won the championship before.
With nothing else to play for other than trying to become the first Ashgold team to win the title since the club last won in 2015, C.K Akonnor’s side will throw everything at the Porcupine Warriors who, for their part will be gunning for their second consecutive win of the season and most importantly, their first away win.
So what factors need to be taken into account and what should we be looking for in terms of deciding the game?
Kotoko’s attacking woes
If there’s one thing that has underscored the Porcupine Warriors charge in recent times, it is the incredible amount of chances they fail to convert. No longer to be feared in many respects, their attack has let them down in a large portion of the matches played in the last season.
The problem still lingers though as the Porcupines could only manage three goals of the many chances created in the four week old league. Saddick Adams won’t play because of injury; Frederick Boateng and Yacouba may not be readily available due to a delay in their registration.
Yakubu Mohammed has often been found wanting in such big games and against the likes of Richard Osei Agyemang and Tijani Joshua, the latter who will be keen to prove a point, he could struggle.
Can Kotoko stop Mumuni and Addai?
The most enjoyable attacking combinations to watch are often the ones that remain impossible to stop despite their predictability. It is no secret, for instance, that the duo’s understanding on the pitch has become a highly efficient weapon for Ashgold.
The Miners are top on the log with 10 points from a maximum of 12. They’ve scored two goals each and would thus be the reason why Kotoko would either win or lose. Paa Kwasi Fabin must be having severe headaches strategizing on how to play them out.
Osei Agyemang to prove a point
Richard Osei Agyemang meets Kotoko, his former club after he was released to join Ashgold at the start of the season. Osei Agyemang sighs anytime he remembers his stint with Kotoko. How unwanted he was- he was considered surplus to requirement.
At Ashgold, things have changed for him. He has been one of the club’s most consistent performers and the reason behind the Club’s rosy start in this campaign. He will surely be an albatross on the neck of the Kotoko attack and would surely make the Management of Kotoko regret for letting go of him.
