BIG BLOW for Ghana: Dutch FA writes to FC Utrecht not to release Issah Abass for U23 AFCON

The Black Meteors have been dealt a major blow following an attempt by the Dutch FA to block the invitation of the former Ghana U17 star, Kickgh.com can exclusively report.

The Royal Dutch Football Association have contacted Eredivisie side FC Utrecht to decline an AFCON U23 call-up for Issah Abass.
 
The 20-year-old has been approached by the Dutch FA severally to switch his nationality to feature for the Orange lads.
 
Abass was among the eleven foreign-based players invited by Coach Ibrahim Tank for the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt.
 
Coach Tanko's side are currently in camp preparing for the next month's tournament which start on November 8th.
 
The on-loan Mainz 05 attacker has previously featured for Ghana at the U17 and U20 level.
 
He was signed by German Bundesliga club from Slovenia top-flight league with NK Olimpija Ljubljana after netting 17 goals in 54 games.
 
He was chased by several clubs in Europe including Anderlecht, West Ham United, Atlanta Calcio, Southampton but German side Mainz 05 won the race with a transfer fee of two million euros in summer 2018.
 
His debut season at Mainz 05 with affected with series of injuries where he made only one appearance in the 2018/19 season.
 
Mianz 05 farmed him out to Dutch Eredivisie side FC Utrecht on a season-long loan deal this summer.
 
Abass has netted a goal in his 10 matches for FC Utrecht in the ongoing season.
