Mohammed Alhassan Gives Hearts Of Oak Fans A Taste Of Things To Come

If most Hearts fans are being honest, unless they take a keen interest in domestic football, not many had heard of Mohammed Alhassan before his arrival at the club.

Against Medeama SC on Sunday, everyone finally got to see what all of the fuss was about as the 26-year-old ran the show in his debut for the Phobians.

Though it was his debut for the Phobians, the ease with which he effortlessly worked the defence areas suggested he’d been a fixture there for a while.

He linked play well throughout the time he was on the pitch, particularly building a successful rapport at the heart of Hearts’ defence with Benjamin Agyare.

Unlike many centre-backs, Alhassan is only about the end product. No fuss, no histrionics or playing to the camera, just a good old-fashioned work ethic that gets results. Whilst it’s true that it was only a friendly game, it’s worthwhile mentioning that Medeama had a significantly stronger XI on paper, and the defender wasn’t fazed at all. Far from it in fact.

Perhaps the one note of caution that needs to be sounded at this juncture is that of creating certain expectations. Before his arrival at the club, the former WAFA skipper was compared to former players Stephen Tetteh and immediate past skipper Inusah Musah thanks to his skill on the ball and his manner of play.

He appreciated the compliment and said as much in his interview with after their triumph over Medeama SC, however, he was also keen to point out that he is neither of those players.

He held the line perfectly to facilitate the offside trap; read the game instinctively and made intelligent yet sensible passes that underlined what a competent, accomplished and decisive man-marker he is, with good positional and tactical awareness to boot.

He was a difficult proposition for the Medeama forwards to play against.

The fans as expected were effusive in their praise of his performance but it would be remiss of them to foist their hope on him after just a game.

Mohammed Alhassan made a sensational introduction to life at Hearts and with his immense talent and prowess he would surely thrive.

He only needs the support of all within the club and they will know how smart a business it was to lure him to the club.
