MATCH REPORT: Ghana 5-1 Togo - Kwabena Owusu bags HAT-TRICK as Black Meteors thrash Togo in U23 AFCON Qualifiers

A hat-trick from Salamanca CF goal poacher Kwabena Owusu helped the Black Meteors to wallop Togo in the qualification round of the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghana U23 team recorded a 5-1 home victory over Togo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko's charges started the match on a good note as they managed to open the floodgate before the half-hour mark.

Spanish-based Kwabena Owusu snatched the lead for the Black Meteors of Ghana with a stunning strike on the 20th minute of the game.

A penalty-kick awarded to Ghana on the 25th minute was squandered by Dinamo Brest striker Joel Fameyeh.

The first half of the match ended in a one-draw as the Togolese levelled the score before the break through Akoro Bilali.

After the recess, Ghana gained the possession to distribute brilliant passes and long range cross to bang more goals.

Former Anderlecht youth star Osman Bukari restored the lead for the Black Meteors with an audacious strike on the 55th minute.

On the 71st minute, Kwabena Owusu netted his second goal of the day with a brilliant finish to extend the lead to 3-1.

Owusu registered his third goal with another superb finish on the 73rd minute which earned him a standing ovation from the fans who witnessed the match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Substitute Yakubu Nassam Ibrahim of Pofmade Academy sealed their heavy home over the Togolese U23 team with his finish on the 85th minute of the match.

A late shot from Yaw Yeboah went wide as the match ended in a 5-1 win in favor of Ghana.

The return league will be played in Togo on Saturday.

The winner will face the Gabon U23 side in the next round.
