MATCH REPORT: Kotoko 2-1 Kariobangi Sharks - Porcupine Warriors breathe life into Confederation Cup campaign with famous win

Coach Akunnor and his charges are through to the next phase of CAF Confederation Cup following their victory over Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday afternoon.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko booked themselves a ticket to next round of the competition after whipping Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors started the match on a good note as they ended the first department of the match in a 2-1 victory.

Winger Maxwell Baakoh nearly opened the score for the homesters with a long-range shot on the 7th minute but it went wide as well as a header from Vincent Wasambo on the 12th minute of the game.

Debutant Abdul Fataw Safiu snatched the lead for the 'Kum Apem' lads with a brilliant finish on the 16th minute.

A 25th minute shot from Emmanuel Gyamfi was fisted out by goalkeeper Brian Bwire which prevented the home side doubling the lead.

Skipper Patilah Omoto grabbed the equaliser for Kenyan club with an audacious strike on the 28th minute of the game.

Kotoko restored the lead from the spot after their talisman Songne Yacouba was fouled in the 18-yard box by Michael Bodo.

Captain Amos Frimpong neatly converted the penalty into the back of the net of Kariobangi Sharks on the 39th minute.

A powerful shot from Duke Abuya on the stroke of halftime was saved by the woodwork which ended the first half in a 2-1 in favor of Asante Kotoko.

Back from the break, the two side failed to find the back of the net despite the numerous chances created and set-pieces awarded to them.

The Kenyans tried their luck with long range shots but they were denied by goalkeeper Felix Annan.

Asante Kotoko will know their next opponent in the last round before the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup this month.
