MATCH REPORT: Asante Kotoko 1-1 Al Hilal - Songne Yacouba saves Porcupine Warriors from defeat in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko shared spoils with Al Hilal Omdurman at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a 1-1 scoreline in the fifth game of the CAF Confederations Cup in Group C.

Songne Yacouba equalized for Asante Kotoko in the dying embers of the game after Waleed Hamid had given Al Hilal the lead in the first half.

Asante Kotoko tried to attack deep like they've done against their opponents in this year's competition in the early exchanges but All Hilal remained resolute to repel all attacks from the home side.

In trying to prevent Asante Kotoko from scoring, Al Hilal were threatening in attack through the aerial balls with the little chances they haf which was their strength in the game.

They found the net on the 32nd minute through Waleed Hamid who connected to a pull out that went pass all Kotoko defenders to send Al Hilal 1-0 up just after the half hour mark.

Emmanuel Gyamfi and Abdul Fatawu Safiu had glaring chances to bring back Asante Kotoko in the lead before half time but failed to utilize them which meant the visitors winning the half by 1-0.

In the second half, Asante Kotoko realized the importance not to lose this game and were more attacking minded but could not make use of any of their chances from set pieces.

Abdul Fatawu Safiu had to struck the woodwork twice from free kick but Songne Yacouba equalized for Asante Kotoko late in the game to breathe life in the team's chances of progressing to the next round of the competition.

The game ended 1-1 in Kumasi and Nkana FC had, before this game, beaten Zesco United by 3-0 which could have saw Asante Kotoko qualifying baring any results of their last game against Zesco had they have beaten Al Hilal.

With Zesco United out of this competition, Asante Kotoko will have to go all out to beat them in their last game in Ndola, Zambia if Asante Kotoko will have to qualify to the next stage of the competition.
