NC Special Cup Report: Ashanti Gold 1-0 Nzema Kotoko - Miners beat Kotoko to qualify for Confederation Cup

The Obuasi-based club booked themselves a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup next season after pipping ten-man Nzema Kotoko in the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition tier-2 final.

Ashanti Gold SC managed to beat second-tier side Nzema Kotoko 1-0 to win the competition at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
 
The first half of the match was balanced as both sides created several goal glaring opportunities but failed to score in the early minutes of the game.
 
Nzema Kotoko came close from scoring before the quarters of the match as a header from Akese Akese went wide on the 12th minute of the game.
 
The Ghana Premier League side gained possession to dominate the match as Mark Agyekum and Shafiu Mumuni kept tormenting the defense of Kotoko with audacious strikes.
 
Youngster Emmanuel Owusu was the hero of the first department as he dazzle the back line of the Porcupines.
 
Mark Agyekum snatched the lead for the Miners lads on the 38th minute with a brilliant strike to end the first department in a 1-0 victory in favor of Ashanti Gold SC.
 
After the break, Coach Zachariassen's charges continued to mount pressure on Nzema Kotoko as they were in search for more goals.
 
Goalkeeper Evans Quansah denied Mark Agyekum, Godfred Asiamah and Emmanuel Owusu from doubling the scores for their side with magnificent saves.
 
On the hour-mark, Appiah McCarthy nearly doubled the score for the Miners lads but his audacious long range shot was fisted out by Quansah.
 
Ivorian international Richard Djodi was introduced to replace Amos Nkrumah as they continued to intensify their pressure on the second-tier side.
 
Nzema Kotoko finished the match with ten men after Akese Akese was sent off for elbowing Roland Amouzou in the 75th minute of the match.
 
Ashanti Gold SC could have bagged more goals but they squandered most of the goal glaring opportunities and set-pieces awarded to them after the break.
