17:00 — Asante Kotoko Sign William Opoku Mensah


We are delighted to announce the completion of the 2019/2020 Premier League player registration deadline-day signing of striker William Opoku Mensah.

The 24-year-old former American Super League (MLS) player joins us on a year-long deal with an option for a further extension.

Opoku Mensah began his career along the Western coast, with Bayern Munich FC in Sekondi Takoradi before heading to University of Cape Coast Youngsters, Danbort FC and Eleven Wise.

He moved to Karela United where he scored seven goals including a famous hat-trick against Hearts of Oak at Anyinase in the 2018 Premier League which was cancelled after the Anas Arimeyaw Anas expose dubbed #12.

His form at Karela United earned him a move to Kansas City United in the MLS and, although he was restricted by injury, the forward impressed during his time on the pitch. 

William Opoku joins the Porcupines after a stint in the State League with All-Stars United in Maryland.

Coach Maxwell Konadu says: “We know him already and so he is not a player that we are going try. Per the options available to us, I think he is the best and that is why we picked him ahead of the others.”

Opoku Mensah describes his signing as a dream come true as reveals to us his age-long admiration and desire for the club and the red shirt respectively. 

“I grew up hearing the names of former Kotoko greats like Opoku Nti, Dogo Moro, Baba Yara and Nana Arhin Duah," says the player whose idol is Senegal and Liverpool great, Sadio Mane. "It has been my desire for years to be part of this club and wear the famous red jersey. I promise to give more than 100 per cent and asks that the fans support me.”


17:20 — Kotoko terminate George Abege's contract


The Porcupines and Ugandan striker George Abege have today parted company after the mutual termination of our three-year contract today. 

George Abege joined us from Kariobangi Sharks in Kenya in July 2019 under former coach, Kjetil Zachariassen as we beefed up our squad for the 2019/2020 Africa Cup campaign.

The soft-spoken striker earned two starts as we failed to make the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stages this season and was barely used in any competitive domestic game afterwards.

George Abege's struggle to nail down a place in the team started under Kjetil Zachariassen and continued through Assistant Coach Johnson Smith's era as Caretaker Coach following the sacking of the Norwegian trainer.

The striker's lot did not improve under Maxwell Konadu who has been in charge of the technical team since December 2019.

Eleven Wonders is closing in on a deal to sign the 19-year-old as they seek to augment their squad after their poor start in the Ghana Premier League -- they are yet to record a point after three matches in the Premier League. understands that negotiation between Amankwa and the club are far advance with the player set to sign a two-year deal.
The workerholic midfielder was on the radar of Kumasi-based club King Faisal before the commencement of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League.
Frank Amankwa previously featured for Wa All Stars, now known as Legon Cities, before moving to Karela United with some impressive performance for the side.
He helped Karela United to reach the finals of the Normalisation Committee Special Competition where they lost to Asante Kotoko.

The 21-year-old is joining the Rainbow club on a three-year deal after his club had fruitful talks with the club's officials on the transfer deadline day.
The midfield dynamo is one of the highly-rated midfielders in the Division One League following his sterling output with Vision FC for the past seasons.
Following his standout performance at Vision FC, he was invited to the Black Meteors for the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations.
Nurudeen was a key member of the Ghana U23 squad that finished fourth position at the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations staged in Egypt.
He made two appearances for the Ghana U23 team during the tournament.
