Black Queens fail to qualify for Olympic Games after Kenya defeat

Coach Mercy Tagoe and her charges failed to book a ticket to the next year's tournament after a loss to Kenya in the final round of qualifiers on Tuesday.

The Black Queens dream of qualifying to the 2020 Olympic Games ended after losing 1-0 to the Harambee Starlets of Kenya.

A lone strike from Gentrix Shikangwa handed the Kenyans one of the slots to represent Africa at the 2020 Olympic Games to be staged in Japan.

Shikangwa converted a spot-kick awarded to the East African country on the 99th minute of the game during the extra time after the entire 90 minutes has ended in a scoreless stalemate.

Ghana was held to a 0-0 draw by the senior female national team of Ghana in the first leg tie staged in Accra last weekend.

Kenya have joined the likes of Nigeria, South Africa and DR Congo who have already qualified for the next year's tournament.
