Ayew announces Fenerbahace departure; returns to Swansea

Swansea City forward Andre Ayew has officially left Fenerbahce after his final game for the Istanbul club at the weekend.

The Ghanaian international spent last season on loan with Fener following the Swans relegation to the Championship.

Speaking to club’s official TV station after the game against Antalyaspor, Ayew said he is leaving the Super Lig club: “First of all I want to thank the fans, the club, and the staff. I am leaving this great club with lots of experience. It was a very tough year for us but at least we have managed to finish the season strongly.

“Let’s hope Fenerbahce have a great season in the next campaign. Speaking personally, I have to say that I should have done better. This is a huge club and the memories will remain with me forever.”

Ayew has been a disappointing signing for the Turkish club after joining them last summer on a temporary basis.

The Yellow Canaries have been fighting relegation for most of the season and the Swansea City man didn’t impress enough to earn himself a permanent move.

The 29 year old played 38 games for Fenerbahce in all competitions, scoring just five goals.

Despite his imminent return to Swansea City it’s likely he will leave the Welsh club in this transfer window after they failed they failed to get promotion back to the Premier League.

Ayew’s contract at the Liberty Stadium runs until June 2021.
