According to the Leicester City forward the World Cup qualifying match against Chad scheduled for tonight is important on multiple levels.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Ayew said he is open and ready to offer his support to every player in the team to make them feel at ease.
"I'm 33, we have boys in the national team who are 19, so of course they are not my friends. But I don't care about age, I'm free and open to everyone," he stated.
Ayew refused to look past the notion that there is a rift in the team, saying, "We [Black Stars players] are not best friends. Everyone has people that he's closer to. But there's no problem or friction.... sometimes there's misunderstandings but it's part of the game."
Tonight, a win will push Black Stars closer to a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Also, it will be the very first match for the West African powerhouse this year, and their first game on home soil since Dec. 22, 2024.
In Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualification standing, Ghana are second with 9 points, nine clear of sixth-place Chad, their opponent tonight. With the top two teams from the group qualifying for the global showpiece, Black Stars can lock down their spot by beating both Chad and Madagascar.
