Ghana defender Alexander Djiku was adjudged the best player when the Black Stars succumbed to a defeat to Cape Verde in the opening games of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars suffered a painful 2-1 loss to Cape Verde in the Group B at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
Jamiro Monteiro opened the scoring in the 16th minute for the Blue Sharks before Djiku levelled after the break but a goal from Garry Rodriguez in the dying embers of the fixture aided Cape Verde to secure all the three maximum points.
The Fenerbahce centre-back displayed a five-star performance for the Black Stars despite their defeat in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opening fixture.
Djiku has now scored two goals at the Africa Cup of Nations after netting his debut against Comoros in the last edition held in Cameroon in 2022.
