Former Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah has accepted the challenge to face his own country Ghana in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Currently, the head coach of Sudan, Kwesi Appiah's side have been paired with his motherland Ghana in Group F alongside Angola and Niger in the next AFCON qualifying series.

The 63-year-old returned to Sudan in September last year but to take over their senior national team this time around, and has been very impressive so far especially in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In an interview on 3Sports, the experienced gaffer, has reiterated that, they are no underdogs in the African game now and also emphasized on how significant it is to start preparing for their opponents before the qualifiers begin.

"I've always said there are no minnows in football now."

"It is really important that any team you meet, you prepare very well and make sure you have the right team to try and win the day."

The group stage of the qualifiers will be played in the international windows in September, October, and November of this year. The top two teams in each group will secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
