Reigning Africa champions, Al Ahly have concluded their preparation for the match-day five of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League group stage phase.
Al Ahly are scheduled to face Ghanaian champions Medeama SC on Friday, February 23, 2023 in an all-important fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Egyptian powerhouse held their final training at the venue for the crucial match on Thursday evening after facing traveling issues.
The team arrived in Kumasi earlier today after their plane experienced a breakdown at Accra Airport, causing delays and prompting Al Ahly to write to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to seek a postponement of the match.
However, Medeama SC declined the request from CAF for the game to be rescheduled for Sunday.
The breakdown occurred during a refuelling stop at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, when a gastric collision with the front of the fuselage led to a malfunction, rendering the plane unfit for further travel despite attempts to repair it.
The technical team and players of Al Ahly were forced to spend a night in Accra before jetting off to Kumasi on Thursday morning.
Al Ahly are highly optimistic of recording a positive result against Medeama SC in tomorrow's match to seal their qualification to the next round of the competition.
Al Ahly sits on top of Group D of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League with six points while Medeama SC remains at the bottom with just four points after four matches.
