Mamelodi Sundowns and Young Africans had a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarterfinal.
In the starting lineup, Sundowns had star players Peter Shalulile, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, and Thembinkosi Lorch. However, Themba Zwane couldn't play due to suspension.
In the first ten minutes, Sundowns had to make a substitution as Bongani Zungu got injured and was replaced by Aubrey Modiba.
After a slow start, Sundowns tried to take control of the game. Shalulile had a chance to score but his shot went wide.
Young Africans started to play better around the 30-minute mark. Clement Mzize had a shot on goal, but Sundowns' goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made a good save.
Ribeiro Costa had a great opportunity to score before halftime, but he couldn't capitalize on it.
In the second half, Young Africans dominated the game and put pressure on Sundowns. Kennedy Musonda and Mzize caused trouble with their runs.
Young Africans had some close chances, with Mzize almost equalizing with Williams, but the Sundowns captain made a save.
Sundowns made two substitutions in the second half, bringing on Sphelele Mkhulise for Mosa Lebusa and replacing Ribeiro with Thapelo Morena.
As the match neared the end, Sundowns gained confidence and came close to scoring the winning goal with a curling free-kick from Teboho Mokoena. However, they couldn't find the back of the net, and the match ended in a goalless draw.
