Ghana's sole representative in this season's CAF Confederation Cup, Dreams FC, will be facing Zamalek FC in the semi-final later this month.
Egyptian giants Zamalek FC booked themselves a ticket to the semis of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Future FC 3-2 on aggregate in the two-legged fixture of the quarterfinal.
Zamalek FC secured a 2-1 win over Future FC in the first leg tie before drawing 1-1 in the reverse leg fixture at the Cairo Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.
Cameroonian international Joseph Ngwem opened the scoring for Future FC in the 18th minute with the hopes of getting the second goal, but their dream of making it to the semi-final of the competition for the first time was shattered following a 66th-minute equalizer for Zamalek FC by Ahmed Hamdi.
Ghanaian side Dreams FC were also held to a 1-1 stalemate by Malian powerhouse Stade Malien in the second leg. Dreams FC secured qualification to the semi-final of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup on 3-2 aggregate after the Malians failed to overturn the 2-1 defeat in the first leg.
Dreams FC made a historic feat at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium earlier today after eliminating Stade Malien to reach the semi-final to become the third Ghanaian club in the competition's history after Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in 2004.
Zamalek FC will host the ‘Still Believe’ lads at the Cairo International Sports Stadium on April 21, 2024, for the first leg tie and travel to Kumasi for the reverse leg fixture against Dreams FC on April 28, 2024.
Zamalek FC last trip to Ghana
Zamalek FC will be making their first trip to Ghana for a CAF inter-club competition since their 2-0 loss to Hearts of Oak in the CAF Super Cup in 2001.
Goals from Emmanuel Osei Kuffour and Charles Taylor helped the star-studded Hearts of Oak team defeat Zamalek FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
