Gor Mahia head coach CK Akonnor has made history by becoming the first coach to claim the Coach of the Month award twice in the 2025/26 Kenya Premier League season, after being named January 2026 honoree.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, following Akonnor’s impressive leadership that propelled Gor Mahia to the top of the league table.
He emerged ahead of competitors Osborne Monday (Murang’a SEAL), Bernard Mwalala (Bandari FC), and Fred Ambani (AFC Leopards), thanks to a stellar January record that saw Gor Mahia win five matches and draw one from six games, scoring 15 goals, conceding only four, and keeping three clean sheets.
The run included a dominant 4–1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks and a thrilling comeback from 2-0 down to defeat Murang’a SEAL 3–2, helping Gor Mahia amass 40 points, four clear of second-placed AFC Leopards.
In recognition of his achievement, Akonnor received a customized SportPesa League Coach of the Month trophy and a KSh 75,000 cash prize from league sponsors SportPesa.
This marks Akonnor’s second Coach of the Month accolade, having previously won the award in October 2025.
