Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Umar Basiru has been named the best player of the 2023/24 season in the Ethiopia Premier League.
The lanky midfielder has been a mainstay in for Ethiopia Nigd Bank since joining them from fellow top flight side, Ethiopian Medhin.
Basiru has good experience, having started his professional career at Ghana side, West Africa Football Academy.
He was signed by record Ghana Premier League holders, Asante Kotoko but he struggled to command a regular shirt.
He left for fellow top flight side, Karela where he enjoyed a glittering outing before departing for East Africa.
He helped the side to win last season’s Ethiopia Premier League with 64 points.
He is currently part of Ethiopia Bank’s squad that is playing against Young Africans of Tanzania in the CAF Champions League.
