Ghana coach Chris Hughton has stated that they will go into their crunch encounter with Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a different approach.
Despite being considered as one of the favourites to win the tournament, Ghana were blown away by Cape Verde as they beat them 2-1 in their opening game of the 2023 AFCON on Sunday night.
Substitute Garry Rodrigues fired home an injury time stunner to secure the three points for Cape Verde as they go top of the group after Group B rivals Egypt and Mozambique drew 2-2 earlier on the day.
Speaking after the game, Hughton who is known for his tactical histrionics - was quick to express his displeasure with the results, saying he expects his side to improve in their next game against Egypt.
“We didn’t start well,” Hughton told beIN Sports. “They scored an incredible goal but we got ourselves back into the game.
“With the way the game was going, I thought it was going to be a draw but they had more attacking quality and got the win in the end.
“I mean with the Egypt result, anything can happen now. We have to reflect on our mistakes and we need to do better,” he added.
