Head coach of the Black Satellites of Ghana, Maxwell Konadu, has shifted his focus to Ghana’s final Group B match against Togo following his side’s 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
The result leaves Ghana with one point from two matches after an opening defeat to Nigeria, making the clash against Togo a must-win encounter to end the tournament on a positive note.
Konadu praised his players for their resilience, particularly after an early red card forced Ghana to abandon its original tactical plan. The coach switched from a 4-3-3 formation to a 3-5-1 system, a change he believes helped the team dominate large spells of the contest and create several scoring opportunities.
Despite Joseph Badu’s equalizer, Ghana failed to find a winning goal. Konadu, however, commended his substitutes and the team’s fighting spirit, insisting they deserved more from the match.
"I'm proud of the boys. Even though we couldn't win, we'll keep fighting. We'll try to beat Togo and then see what happens in the Nigeria-Burkina Faso game. We believed we could beat Burkina Faso and we created so many chances. Sometimes that's football - you just have to accept it and move on. The boys did so well, even with one man down." he said.
Although Ghana have already secured qualification for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as hosts, Konadu says his side remains determined to beat Togo and finish the competition with a victory.
