Andre Ayew breaks silence after missing a penalty against Uruguay which led to Ghana's excruciating exit from the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup
The Black Stars suffered a very painful 2-0 loss to the Sky Blues earlier today in their final group game to bow out of the competition.
Ghana had the opportunity to jump into the lead on the 21st minute after Kudus Mohammed was fouled by goalkeeper Sergio Rochet Alvarez in the box for a penalty.
Captain Andre Ayew stepped up and had his penalty saved and subsequently da Arrascaeta netted a brace to win it for the two time world champions.
Speaking in a post-match presser, the 32 year old admitted he is still struggling to fathom how he missed from just 12 yards but added the team has a strong squad with a brighter future.
“We had the opportunity to get to the next stage…I missed the penalty..it’s difficult to take..we did not get it right..I am very optimistic for the future."
“I am sad but we will try and make it better."
