Ghana’s U17 side, the Black Starlets, have booked their place in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B U17 Cup of Nations after a thrilling 3-1 comeback victory over Niger in Abidjan.
Needing a response after their defeat to Ivory Coast in the previous group match, the Starlets started brightly and struck in the 4th minute through Robinho Yao Gavi, who finished off a slick team move. But their lead was short-lived as Niger drew level just three minutes later.
The contest turned into a tense battle with both defenses holding firm until the final stages. With ten minutes left on the clock, Mark Kagawa Mensah produced a moment of brilliance, unleashing a stunning 30-yard strike to restore Ghana’s advantage.
Yao Gavi sealed the win deep into stoppage time, completing his brace and sparking celebrations as the Starlets confirmed their semi-final berth.
Ghana now await their opponents from Group B as they continue their quest for a place at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
