Nigeria defeat Burkina Faso 2-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium to emerge as champions of the 2022 WAFU U-17 Championship.
The Nigerians started on a good note, having taken the game under their control in the opening minutes but couldn't make anything good out of it.
The Golden Eaglets finally made their dominance count after snatching the lead on the 23rd minute through Abubakar Abdulai Iddris who connected into the net nicely from a cross from the left side.
The game at some point was really a tough one with so much aggressiveness which resulted into series of set pieces for both sides.
The Young Stallions finally got themselves back on level just on the stroke of half time thanks to a close range header from Ouedraogo.
In the second half, the Nigerians came really stronger and restored their lead in just two minutes from the break.
Abubakar Abdulai Iddris once again nipped on goalkeeper Traore's howler to calmly plot into the net to complete his brace and their second of the night.
The Eaglets came so close again to scoring after Mbata picked up Iddris with a decent ball but couldn't complete his hatrick as his effort was denied by the goalkeeper.
Burkina Faso nearly equalised through Ouatara Haruna but a great double stops from Richard Odoh rescued Nigeria and kept their lead intact after 57 minutes.
Nigeria came close to scoring again on the 66th minute but midfielder Okere had his cross went off the crossbar. Just unlucky!
The Burkinabes with a glorious opportunity to level the score but Aboubakar Camara missed a very close range in the closing moment of the game. What a miss it was!
After series of exchanges, there was no goal recorded as it finished 2-1 for Nigeria in the end and were declared champions of the WAFU U-17 Championship.
Both Nigeria and Burkina Faso have qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Algeria.
