M’Baye Niang has begun a new chapter of his career after signing for USL Dunkerque, with the Senegalese striker committing to one season and an option for a further year.
The former Senegal international said he chose the French club after carefully considering the opportunities available to him. Despite having other options on the transfer market, Niang decided that Dunkerque offered the sporting project and environment he was looking for.
The 30-year-old was seeking a fresh challenge where he could progress while also using his experience to support his new team-mates. His decision followed a period of assessing the various possibilities open to him before agreeing to join the club.
Niang explained his choice in an interview with L’Equipe, highlighting the importance of finding a setting that could provide new prospects and genuine sporting interest.
Experience to benefit Dunkerque’s younger players
The move is not only about the next stage of Niang’s playing career. The striker also wants to contribute to the development of the younger members of the Dunkerque squad.
Having started his professional career at an early age, Niang intends to pass on the lessons he has learned throughout his career. His experience of playing in several European leagues and representing Senegal gives him a broad understanding of the demands of the game.
Dunkerque will therefore benefit from a player capable of contributing both on the pitch and within the dressing room. Niang is expected to help the club pursue its ambitions while offering guidance to the team’s younger players.
