Ghanaian champions Medeama SC have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in the second leg of the first preliminary round at Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday.
The five-time champions had secured a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg in Tarkwa and completed the job with another strong performance on home soil to advance to the next round.
Malawian international Patrick Mwaungulu opened the scoring in the 16th minute to give TP Mazembe a two-goal advantage on aggregate.
Mwaungulu completed his brace in the 76th minute before Kazema Baso added another goal as the Crocodile Eaters strengthened their grip on the tie.
Medeama pulled one back through Dominic Amponsah with three minutes remaining, but the Mauve and Yellows could not find the goals needed to change the outcome of the tie.
The result sees TP Mazembe advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League, while Medeama’s continental campaign comes to an end at the first preliminary round stage.
The Congolese side progressed to the next stage of the competition with a 4-1 aggregate victory and will face Zambia's Red Arrows FC in the next round.
Medeama will now shift their focus to the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League as they begin the defence of their domestic title.
