Medeama SC's aspirations of advancing to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League came to an end after Young Africans clinched a decisive victory over CD Belouizdad in Tanzania on Saturday.
Facing a crucial scenario following their defeat to Al Ahly in the previous fixture, Medeama needed a favorable result between Young Africans and Belouizdad to keep their hopes alive. However, Young Africans' commanding win extinguished any chance of progression for Medeama.
Despite the disappointment, Medeama will approach their final group stage match in Algeria with resolve, seeking to secure a respectable third-place finish after a commendable showing in the CAF Champions League.
In a dominant performance at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Young Africans asserted their dominance, with Yahia Abass breaking the deadlock just before halftime. The hosts further solidified their lead early in the second half through Stephane Aziz Ki, followed by goals from Kennedy Musonda and Joseph Gnadou, securing a convincing victory.
Ghanaian forward Augustine Okrah made an appearance for Medeama in the second half, but his contributions couldn't alter the outcome of the match.
With Al Ahly and Young Africans claiming the top two positions in the group, they advance to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, leaving Medeama to reflect on their journey in the esteemed tournament.
