Morocco have fallen two places to seventh in the live FIFA world rankings after drawing 1-1 with Mali in an international friendly on Sunday.

The match was played at the Grand Stade de Tanger, with the result costing Morocco their recently achieved position of fifth in the global standings.

The Atlas Lions had moved up to fifth after beating Gabon and Lesotho in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Their rise was also aided by Brazil’s defeat by Australia.

Morocco now have 1805.34 points, placing them just behind Brazil and Portugal in a tightly contested section of the rankings.

Portugal have climbed to fifth with 1807.69 points after their 2-1 victory over Norway in the fourth round of the UEFA Nations League. Brazil are sixth on 1806.51 points.

Only a small points gap separates the three teams, with the leading positions changing following the latest results during the international break.
