The 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to feature 24 teams, following the conclusion of qualifiers that delivered thrilling contests and historic moments.

 

Mozambique secured the final berth with a 2-1 victory over Guinea-Bissau, completing the roster for the eagerly anticipated tournament, scheduled for December 2025 in Morocco. As the host nation, Morocco qualifies automatically and will welcome Africa’s finest teams for a showdown of talent, skill, and ambition.  


Morocco will be joined by some of the continent’s most decorated football nations, including reigning champions Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Algeria, and Egypt. Other heavyweights such as Nigeria, Tunisia, and South Africa have also booked their spots, promising a tournament packed with football excellence.  


The qualifiers showcased the growing competitiveness of African football, with Botswana returning after a 12-year absence and Tanzania and Mozambique qualifying after spirited campaigns. DR Congo, Angola, and Gabon also made their way back to the continental stage, while Sudan and Benin sealed their spots on the final day of qualifying.  

Teams like Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, and Comoros further add to the exciting mix, with Equatorial Guinea and Uganda bringing their tenacity to the tournament. This edition promises to be a blend of established giants and rising teams eager to leave their mark.
