Current African footballer of the year, Sadio Mane has added Ghana to his favourites to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which comes off early next year.
The Bayern Munich star was really sensational in the last edition where he led the Teranga Lions of Senegal to win the tournament for the first time in their history- scoring the winning kick against Egypt in the final at the Olembe Stadium in Cameroon's capital, Yaounde.
Once again Senegal are part of the 14 nations to have booked their ticket to the next edition of the AFCON so far, including Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Mali, South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia and others.
However, Ghana despite leading Group E of the qualifiers are yet to secure qualification and will have to avoid a defeat against Central Africa Republic in the final round of matches in September.
Sadio Mane when quizzed over their title defence, he admitted the competition is full of surprises and nothing is capable of happening but mentioned six countries including his Senegal as the usual favourites and the list included Ghana
“The AFCON is full of surprises, but we know the usual best teams like the hosts, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Algeria and Cameroon," he said, as quoted by Joueurs Cameroonais.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Ivory Coast and will on January 13, 2024.
