Black Starlets Head Coach Laryea Kingston has admitted that his team is under pressure to perform ahead of their opening match against Ivory Coast in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

The former national hero is optimistic about his squad's readiness to face their Ivorian counterparts, believing the team has prepared thoroughly for the tournament.

“We are ready,” Kingston stated. “Preparations have been very good and from our last training, the boys are looking very good for the game.”

Acknowledging the support from the Ghana Football Association, Kingston expressed gratitude for the resources and assistance provided in the team's preparation. “Thanks to the FA, we’re ready.”

However, Kingston admitted there is considerable pressure on him and his players to perform, given Ghana's failure to qualify for the U20 AFCON since 2017.

“Yes, we’re under pressure to perform because in the last two editions, we have not been able to qualify. I know Ghanaians expect us to qualify and that puts some pressure on us.''

Despite the pressure, Kingston remains confident in the team's preparations and readiness.

“There is pressure on us but where we’ve taken the boys to and the preparations we have had, thanks to the FA, we’re ready,” Coach Laryea Kingston concluded.

The Black Starlets are in Group A, alongside Ivory Coast and Benin.
