Ghana Black Stars duo Joseph Paintsil and Osman Bukari were excluded from the Black Stars team in the upcoming Unity Cup match against Nigeria because of club-related responsibilities in Major League Soccer (MLS)—where they ply their trade, the Ghana Football Association has confirmed.

Both wingers, who signed for LA Galaxy and Austin FC in summer 2024, respectively, have gotten off to a great start in the United States, regularly participating in matches.

Ghana Black Stars coach, Otto Addo prior considered the pair for call up, but their being left off the roster was triggered by the timing of the Unity Cup, which falls outside the FIFA international window.

The Unity Cup will run from May 27 to May 31, 2025. Ghana will face bitter-rivals Nigeria in the semifinal on May 28, with the victor proceeding to the final on May 31 to clash with the winner of the game between Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago

All the matches will be played at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium in West London, as coach Otto Addo is due to announce his squad in the course of the week.
