Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has praised enthusiastically after Strasbourg avoided relegation during Saturday's French Ligue 1 penultimate match against Paris Saint-Germain, posting a 1-1 draw with the giants the hard way to confirm their participation in top tier football next season.
Relegation was glancing into the eyes of the Blue-and-Whites; the prospect of its top-flight residency ending after 6 years was very real. The financial burden of demotion, while they might lose most of their top stars with the escalating heavy costs of adequately injecting a fortune in making a quick comeback, could've been tiring.
But then Kevin Gameiro dragged the ball home and Stade de la Meinau erupted. The heroic 1-1 draw stalemate against Paris Saint-Germain was enough to keep Strasbourg adrift..
"Goal achieved. We are not 11 but thousands. A magical evening! You have been our strength all season! Thank you all. Congratulations to Sun for his 10 years at the club" Djiku tweeted.
The Black Stars centre-back whoes current contract with Strasbourg elapses in the summer has featured in 31 games for Strasbourg, netting one goal, firing two assists, accruing eight yellow cards and one red card.
