Ghanaian coach, Bismark Kobi Mensah has let out a secret that has been kept under wraps for years about former Ghana international Micheal Essien.
According to Kobi Mensah, Essien sponsored him to go and undertake his coaching courses in England, a gesture that he will always remember.
"Michael Essien has been a long-time friend from my secondary school days. We also played together for Ghana with the Black Starlets team," Mensah said. "He paid a lot of money for me to pursue some of my coaching courses in England. I don’t think any family member will do what Essien has done for me," he told Asempa FM.
Apart from rendering help to people, Essien has a foundation under his sleeve; 'The Michael Essien Foundation' which is a community outreach organisation set up by Michael Essien for the people of his home town, Awutu Breku in the Central Region of Ghana.
The foundation offers help to the under-privileged in Awutu Breku, with access to basic amenities such as health care, libraries, public toilets and portable water.
It also provides a scheme for farmers to raise their productivity, sports day, a recreational centre and an annual training for women in accounting and occupational skills among others in honour of Essien's mother.
