Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir has announced the permanent signing of Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku, following an impressive loan spell at the club.
The 25-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a three-year contract, tying him to the club until 2027.
Opoku joined Basaksehir on loan from Portuguese club Arouca at the start of the 2023-2024 season with an option to purchase. The Turkish outfit has now triggered the purchase option, securing the services of the highly-rated defender.
During his loan spell, Opoku played a pivotal role in the team's success, helping them qualify for European competition next season. He was a rock-solid presence at the back, giving top defenders in the Turkish top-flight a tough time. In 28 appearances, he scored four goals and provided one assist.
Opoku has also made a name for himself on the international stage, earning three caps for the Black Stars and scoring one goal. He was part of the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Mali and Central Africa Republic in June.
The lanky defender's impressive form has earned him a permanent spot at Basaksehir, and fans will be excited to see him continue to excel for the club in the coming seasons.
