Black Stars goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi has been adjudged Switzerland Super League best player for the first round of the season following his incredible display for FC ST Gallen.

The 26 year old offered his outmost best in the period under review which won the hearts of the Swiss football faithfuls to vote for him to land this prestigious accolade.

He made solid 58 saves in the first round- a remarkable display which was enough for the Black Stars goalie to fend off tougher oppositions from David Douline (Servette FC), Valon Fazlu (FC Aarau), Cedric Itten (FC Young Boys) and Koro Kone (Yverdon FC) to the award.

The former FC Schoaux netminder was initially not considered by Ghana for the World Cup but could only come in following the injuries of Jojo Wollacott and Richard Ofori.

However, it turned out to be a real tale of 'from zero to hero' as he commanded the post so well for the Black Stars in Qatar, with many a Ghana faithful tipping him to be the first option from now henceforth.

Ati Zigi is currently on a short break with the Swiss league expected to resume on January 23, 2022 and this award will serve as a very huge motivation for him heading into the second round.
