Ghanaian striker Brandon Thomas-Asante's dream of playing in top-flight football next season was ended on Friday night when West Bromwich Albion suffered a 3-1 defeat to Southampton in the reverse leg fixture of the English Championship playoff.

The English-born of Ghanaian descent was introduced to feature for WestBrom in the 64th minute as replacement for Jed Wallace.

Southampton will face Leeds United in the Championship play-off final after a stylish second-half performance saw them beat West Bromwich Albion.

After a goalless first leg, Saints midfielder Will Smallbone opened the scoring in the second half of the second leg, striking from an angle into the top right corner of Baggies keeper Alex Palmer's goal from just inside the box.

Adam Armstrong doubled Saints' lead to trigger a party atmosphere inside the ground with just over ten minutes remaining.

He doubled his tally and sent the hosts to Wembley having found the net from the spot after Ryan Manning was fouled, with Cedric Kipre's injury time header for the visitors proving a mere consolation.

Thomas-Asante had an incredible season in the English Championship after netting 11 goals and provided two assists in 41 league appearances for West Bromwich Albion.

He was named in Ghana's provisional squad list for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but missed out the final squad list for the tournament.
