The Black Stars centre-back's proposed switch to the German Bundesliga outfit from Strasbourg FC has hit snag despite passing a medical examination, according to French tabloid L’Équipe.
Ghana defender Alexander Djiku will no more be joining German top-tier club TSG Hoffenheim due to a last-minute rise in his agent’s commission demands.
The Bundesliga side had agreed a deal with the Alsatians over a €6m transfer fee, with the player having undergone his medical on Wednesday afternoon.
However, his agent, who is also his brother, intervened just as the transfer was to be completed and asked for his fee to be raised, which saw the German club pull out of the deal.
With Strasbourg club president Marc Keller having agreed to sell the Ghanaian defender this transfer window, Djiku will now have to find another destination. The former Caen man has one year left on his current deal.
The 27-year-old has been the subject of interest from clubs around Europe this summer, including Sevilla and Rennes, after an impressive season that saw him appear 31 times in the league as Julien Stéphan’s men finished 6th in Ligue 1.
Djiku played an instrumental role in Ghana's qualification to the 2022 World Cup after a blistering performance against Nigeria in the final play-off games.
He was named Footballer of the year at the 2022 Ghana Football Awards following a standout season in the French Ligue 1 for Strasbourg last term.
Djiku featured in 33 games across all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign where he managed to score once, a goal that stole headlines in France.
His overhead kick goal against AS Monaco was voted best goal in the month of March and was also voted the Strasbourg's best goal of the season
