Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his satisfaction with the development of English-born Ghanaian duo Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong, who have both impressed since their promotion to the first team.
The pair earned their place in the senior squad following standout performances during the pre-season tour of the United States last summer. Both players made their senior debuts in the current campaign and have contributed significantly as Chelsea pushes for a UEFA Champions League spot and progresses to the semi-finals of the Conference League.
George, a talented winger, marked his first Premier League goal in a dramatic comeback win over Fulham on Sunday.
“I’m very happy for Tyrique, as well as Josh Acheampong. Both are academy products, and we decided to promote them because of their immense talent. They must continue to work hard,” said Maresca.
Acheampong, who was an unused substitute during the Fulham match, saw Pedro Neto score a thrilling last-minute winner.
“Pedro’s goal was fantastic. We all know that Pedro is most effective on the right, but we also have Noni and Jadon, so I make decisions based on each game. Pedro has been excellent since his arrival,” Maresca added.
