Former Hearts of Oak striker, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh registered his name on the score sheet for FC Zürich U21 in their narrow 2-1 loss to SC Kriens in the Swiss Promotion League over the weekend.
The former Ghana U20 captain scored in the second half to reduce the deficit after Zürich had gone two goals down.
Barnieh's goal infused hope into the match for the young Zürich side, but despite their efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer.
22-year-old Barnieh has been gradually making his mark in Switzerland, knocking on the door of FC Zürich’s senior team- a team he was once part of in his early season, having joined the Swiss side from Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak but had to move to the youth side after recovering from injury.
His performance against Kriens demonstrated his sharp instincts and leadership qualities—traits that made him a fan favorite at Hearts of Oak and a respected figure in Ghana’s youth setup, as he famously led Ghana to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021.
