Olympique Lyon new signing Ernest Nuamah Appiah scored his first-ever goal for the senior national team of Ghana against Central African Republic in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Nuamah secured all the three maximum points in the final game of Group E of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to secure the Black Stars qualification to its 24th appearance at the AFCON.

The 19-year-old brilliantly handed Ghana 2-1 convincing home victory over the Wild Beast at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after slotting in a sweet pass from Antoine Semenyo on the 88th minute of the game.

Central African Republic opened the scoring in Kumasi through Louis Mafouta before Mohammed Kudus levelled the score with a fine free-kick before the break.

The former FC Nordsjaelland talismanic attacker was introduced on the 63rd minute as replacement for Osman Bukari.

He sealed a season-long loan move from Belgian Jupilier Pro League side RWD Molenbeek after completing a €35 million switch from FC Nordsjaelland.

Nuamah made his debut for Ghana against Madagascar in June 2023.
