French Ligue 1 side FC Metz have announced the signing of Ghanaian defender Terry Yegbe in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Yegbe inked four-year contract with the Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien outfit, joining from Swedish Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg after passing a mandatory medical examination.

The club's official statement reads: “Yegbe, who stands at 1.95m, began his football journey in Ghana with Vision FC before making the leap to Europe in the winter of 2022.

His first stop was Finland, where he turned out for SJK Seinäjoki on loan and quickly established himself at the heart of their defence. His impressive displays paved the way for a move to Sweden, where he joined Elfsborg in February 2024.

In Sweden, Yegbe grew into a key figure, amassing 40 appearances and scoring four goals across two seasons. His commanding presence in duels, ability to play out from the back with his cultured left foot, and threat from set-pieces made him an indispensable part of Elfsborg’s system.

His European journey also saw him compete on the continental stage, featuring in the UEFA Europa League against heavyweights such as Tottenham Hotspur, Galatasaray and Athletic Bilbao. Notably, he was part of the Elfsborg side that stunned AS Roma with a memorable 1-0 victory.

He has featured in 18 games for IF Elfsborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan this season, scoring one goal and providing an assist in the process.

Yegbe expressed his excitement after penning a deal that keeps him at the club until June 2029. He will wear the number 15 shirt at FC Metz.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he said. “I can’t wait to play and meet the whole team. I would like to thank my agents, all the people who support me and of course FC Metz for their trust.”

During the international break in November 2024, Ghana coach Otto Addo handed Terry Yegbe his maiden call-up ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Yegbe made his first-ever debut for the Black Stars in a 2-1 home loss to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
