The 28-year-old defender of Ghanaian roots is reportedly set to be yanked by the newly-promoted German elite division side ahead of the summer transfer window
2. Bundesliga club Schalke 04 are set to release German-born Ghanaian defender Anton Donkor ahead of the start of the 2026/27 football season, a report from the German media has claimed.
The ex-Everton U23 loanee, who joined up with the Veltins-Arena campaigners in the summer of 2024, could see his marriage with the Gelsenkirchen-based club brought to a close this summer although his current existing contract would be due on June 30, 2027.

According to German tabloid Newspaper SPORT BlLD, the Ghana-prospect lateral defender together with his team-mates; Tomas Kalas (33), Finn Porath (29), Christian Gomis (25), Bryan Lasme (27), Emil Höjlund (21), Felipe Sanchez(22), Jannik Bachman (30) and Andrian Gantenbein (25) are set to be shown the exit door ahead of the summer window.
Now that he is set to enter into the free agency pool, it remains to be seen if Bundesliga outfit TSG Hoffenheim would reignite their interest over his services for next season after tracking him during the summer of 2025.

Donkor struggled for form and game time throughout the campaign after witnessing only 8 appearances for the Royal Blues across all competitions in the just ended 2025/26 football season.
Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Göttingen-born native still remains eligible to switch nationalityn and play for Ghana at the international level despite playing for the Germany U18 & U20 national youth teams.
