English-born Ghanaian defender Kelvin Opoku Abrefa has extended his contract with English League One side Reading FC ahead of the 2024/25 season's campaign.
Abrefa was offered a new two-year deal to stay at the Madejski Stadium outfit after a scintillating performance in the just-concluded season.
The talented right-back has been at the Royals since 2017 and made 13 appearances in all competitions last season.
The club's official statement reads: “We are delighted to announce that defender Kelvin Abrefa has penned a new two-year contract with the club.”
“Kelvin returned to Bearwood for pre-season training yesterday and has signed on the dotted line for a new deal which will see him remain a Royal until the summer of 2026.”
Abrefa first joined Reading FC in 2017 when he signed for the club's under-12s, and has stretched his association with the club to nine years with his new deal.
He became Reading FC's 74th Academy Graduate when he made his First Team debut in a Championship match against Coventry City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in February 2022.
He then made his FA Cup debut in some style in January 2023, starting the Third Round tie against Watford and scoring a spectacular opening goal.
The 2023/24 season's campaign saw Kelvin Abrefa juggle regular U21 football along with important contributions to the Reading FC's first team, playing in the Carabao Cup and our historic 9-0 win over Exeter in September – as well as stepping up to start in a vital period of our league run-in.
Kelvin Abrefa has already represented Ghana at the U20 level and still eligible to play for the U23 and the Black Stars in future.
