Ghanaian international Jerome Opoku played a pivotal role in Istanbul Basaksehir's impressive 4-2 victory over Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
The Black Stars defender was on the pitch for the entire match and contributed significantly with a crucial assist in the Week 2 fixture.
Istanbul Basaksehir got off to a strong start at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu, taking the lead in the 16th minute through Krzysztof Piatek. However, the visitors quickly responded, with Sergio Cordova equalizing in the 26th minute, and Jure Balkovec adding a second goal to give Alanyaspor a 2-1 advantage.
After the halftime break, Opoku showcased his playmaking abilities, setting up Joao Figueiredo to level the score at 2-2 in the 54th minute. The match remained tightly contested until two late goals from Deniz Türüc and Serdar Gürler secured the victory for the home side, allowing Istanbul Basaksehir to claim all three points.
Opoku, who has been a key figure for Istanbul Basaksehir this season, has featured in both of the club’s league matches so far.
The 25-year-old center-back joined the Turkish club permanently this summer following a standout loan spell, and his performance on Sunday further solidifies his importance to the team.
