Ghanaian duo of Elisha Owusu and Gideon Mensah have won the French Ligue 2 title with AJ Auxerre and will play in the Ligue 2 next season.
Their last appearance in the French topflight was in the 2021/22 season but spent just a season before they got relegated back to the second-tier.
However, after two years, the Blue-Whites are back in the Ligue 1 with their promotion confirmed after securing a vital goalless draw against Amiens SC last Friday night away from home.
They didn't just qualify but emerged as champions with 71 points after 37 matches and still have a game to spare.
Despite not making the squad for yesterday's game due to unknown reasons, Elisha Owusu has been very influential throughout the campaign having made 29 league appearances with 90% successful pass completion.
On the other hand, Gideon Mensah came on in the second half to replace Clement Akpa in the last twelve minutes- having also played 25 games so far in the league.
AJ Auxerre will wrap up the season on May 17, when they host Concarneau at the Stade de I'Abbe-Deschamps in the final fixture.
