Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban emerged as the hero for Genoa CFC, coming off the bench to score a dramatic late winner in their 2-1 victory over US Sassuolo at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Introduced in the 55th minute, Ekuban made an instant impact and completed the comeback in the 84th minute, calmly finishing from a well-worked assist by Junior Messias to spark wild celebrations among the home supporters.

Genoa had earlier taken control of the contest with a bright start, opening the scoring through Ruslan Malinovskyi, who capped a slick attacking move after being set up by Tommaso Baldanzi.

However, Sassuolo responded strongly after the break and restored parity in the 57th minute when Ismaël Koné found the back of the net, setting up a tense and competitive finish.

With the game hanging in the balance, Genoa pushed forward relentlessly, and the introduction of Messias and Ekuban added renewed attacking energy. Their combination ultimately proved decisive, with Ekuban finishing clinically to secure all three points.

The goal marks another important contribution from the 32-year-old, who continues to play a key role in Genoa’s 2025/26 Serie A campaign. He now has four goals and one assist in 27 league appearances this season.

The victory provides a timely boost for Genoa following a mixed run of results and strengthens their position in the table. Attention now shifts to their next Serie A fixture against Pisa SC on Sunday, April 19, where Ekuban will look to build on his match-winning performance.
