Ghanaian winger John Yeboah has received a call-up to the Ecuador national team for their upcoming matches.
Despite being eligible to represent Ghana, the 23-year-old, who was born in Germany to a Ghanaian father and Ecuadorian mother, has opted to play for the South American nation.
This marks Yeboah's first invitation to the Ecuador national team, a decision influenced by his impressive performances for Polish top-flight club Raków Częstochowa.
Although he had previously represented Germany at the youth level, he has chosen to represent Ecuador.
Yeboah's decision is a setback for Ghana, as there were discussions about having him play for the Black Stars, similar to the cases of Tariq Lamptey and Inaki Williams.
With his current excellent form in the Polish elite league, where he has scored a goal and provided two assists in seven matches, Yeboah is expected to contribute to Ecuador's efforts in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia on October 12 and Colombia on October 17, 2023.
