Ghanaian attacker Brandon Thomas-Asante scored to propel Coventry City to a crucial 1-0 home victory over Bristol City in the English Championship on Saturday.
Coventry City extended their unbeaten home run in the Championship to six games with a narrow victory against play-off-chasing Bristol City.
Brandon Thomas-Asante's powerful second-half finish was enough to give Frank Lampard's side all three points in a game of few clear-cut chances.
The Sky Blues—who also made it three consecutive home league clean sheets for the first time this campaign—move up to 14th in the table.
Defeat for Bristol City, just their second in eight league games, means they remain in ninth and four points off sixth-placed West Bromwich Albion.
Eight points and seven places separated these two sides at kick-off, but there was little to choose between a pair of teams currently fighting for different ambitions this Championship season.
The highlight of a quiet opening 45 came early on, when Nahki Wells found himself clean through for the visiting Robins, only for Oliver Dovin to stand firm in the home goal.
At the other end, Victor Torp and Milan van Ewijk were both unable to direct efforts on target, the former from just outside the 18-yard box, the latter from close range after firing a shot down into the ground.
There was more to keep the 26,000+ in the Coventry Building Society Arena entertained after the break, and there were some nervous moments for the home crowd to sit through as first Scott Twine and then Wells had shots blocked for the visitors.
Ellis Simms set up Jack Rudoni for Coventry after the break, but the midfielder could not adjust his feet in time to trouble Max O'Leary.
Simms then had a sight of goal for himself but was unable to hit the target.
The eventual winner was one of real quality from Thomas-Asante, who smashed home via the underside of the crossbar from a narrow angle after being played through by Rudoni—a first goal for the former West Brom forward since October.
Thomas-Asante has scored two goals and provided an assist in 26 appearances for Coventry City in the ongoing Championship season's campaign.
Thomas-Asante linked with Blackburn Rovers move this January
English Championship side Blackburn Rovers have tabled an offer of £1.75m for the services of Ghana's striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to reports from the English media.
The 26-year-old, currently on the books of fellow lower division side Coventry City FC, has emerged as a transfer target for the former Premier League campaigners having resigned on missing out on their Southampton's forward transfer target Ben Brereton Diaz, who is keen to join league rivals Sheffield United this January.
Sky Sports has indicated that the former West Brom frontman remains a top priority for the Ewood Park campaigners and are hell-bent on securing his services to augment their forward line options this winter.
It remains to be seen if his employers will accept the aforementioned figures in order to sanction the transfer deal with his current suitors, as his deal is set to expire in June 2028.
