Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has proudly declared that despite his Ghanaian heritage, his lifelong dream has always been to play for England.

The 18-year-old midfielder had been courted by the Ghana Football Association due to his parents' nationality, but he has now made his international debut for the Three Lions.

In a recent interview, Mainoo revealed that the Ghana FA did approach him to represent the West African country, but he was resolute in his desire to play for England.

"I'm proud of my Ghanaian heritage but it has always been a dream to play for England. I'm happy to be here. I considered it, but I want to play for England."

Mainoo made his debut in England's friendly against Brazil at Wembley two months ago, coming on as a second-half substitute.

He is now part of the English squad set to compete in the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
