Ghanaian attacking midfielder Michael Baidoo continued his blistering performance by scoring to secure a win for IF Elfsborg against AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.
Baidoo, who had netted three goals and provided three assists in the Europa League qualification playoffs, opened his goal-scoring account in the league stage of the UEFA Europa League against Serie A side AS Roma at the Boraas Arena.
The 25-year-old snatched all three maximum points for the Yellow and Black lads when he stepped up to brilliantly convert a 44th-minute penalty awarded to them before the recess.
IF Elfsborg, who suffered a 3-2 narrow defeat to AZ Alkmaar in the opening fixtures, held on to their 1-0 lead to secure their first win of the league phase of the UEFA Europa League despite AS Roma dominating the remaining minutes of the game.
Baidoo lasted for 89 minutes before IF Elfsborg's manager, Oscar Hiljemark, called on Per Frick to replace the former Vision FC talismanic attacker.
Also, Terry Yegbe delivered a masterclass performance in the heart of IF Elfsborg's defense, with former Inter Allies striker Jalal Abdulai coming on in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Arber Zeneli.
Baidoo has now scored 14 goals and provided seven assists in 33 appearances for IF Elfsborg across all competitions in the ongoing season.
He is expected to be named in the Ghana squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers double-header against Sudan on October 11 and 14.
Ghana coach Otto Addo will announce his 25-man squad list for the all-important fixtures on Friday, October 4, 2024.
